Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Who would have thought that Love can conquer the world? In this newest book by Lauren Oliver we see a town in which every person gets a procedure done at the age of 18 to remove the need for love. Love is considered a sickness that brings with it desire and pain. Deliria Nervosa is a disease that only makes the mind sick and found unnecessary and detrimental. Scientists have found a cure and the laws passed that all people must have the procedure, the dystopian town follows the book of SHHH to the T. "It's been sixty-four years since the president and the Consortium identified love as a disease and forty-three since the scientist perfected the cure"
"The most dangerous sicknesses are those that make us believe we are well"  You don't get a choice if you want the procedure or not, you get limited choices of all the decisions you make, and your every move is watched over by the regime. Lena Holloway's mother did not take to the procedure and was taken away. Lena is just weeks from her procedure and has never considered anything different that the ways of her normal everyday life, Until..Alex appears.
Delirium by Lauren Oliver is a Romeo and Juliet story that is not disappointing. It will keep you engaged and thinking about your life in a whole new way. Sure Love can be a sickness, but without it can we really call ourselves human?
I am not a fan of romance books, but this book about what love is, left me wanting more.
