Author Interview: Cesya MaRae Cuono

Description from Goodreads.com
When Callie Pierce was ten, her mother disappeared without a trace. On the eve of her disappearance twelve years later, the Earth seemingly comes alive. The elements speak to Callie, and that's only the beginning. Everything she has ever known was a twisted fabrication to protect her. Now the truth is set free. Callie and her sister are more powerful than any Faerie ever born. Now they have to use their powers to save their mother and family from the evil hands of fate that threaten to tear them apart. Welcome to her elemental reality.

Yay! I am so excited to have Cesya here today for her blog tour :) She was nice enough to answer some questions regarding her book Elemental Reality.
  1. With the popularity of Faeries in young adult books today, what is the main twist in Elemental Reality?
Short and sweet: Demons are at war with the Faeries and Conjurers that live in elemental cities.

  1. What makes it stand out from the others?
Their powers and only the females are Faeries. The males are Conjurers. They both have the same abilities but not always the same elemental power. As for Callie and Lola, well, you’ll just have to find out!

  1. How did the story come to you and did you have to do any research to help it along the way?
I have a vivid imagination and one day a scene played out in my head and I wrote it down. The rest of my story stemmed from that one particular scene. The research I did was on the elements themselves. What color they were, what exactly they represented, etc.

  1. This book is very fast paced, what helped motivate you during your writing process to keep the intensity going?
A deadline. Bahaha! Just kidding. Okay, not really kidding but I felt that it needed to be fast paced considering everything that is happening around the characters.

  1. If this book came with a soundtrack, what are some of the songs you would pick?
I had some help with this one from my awesome friend who loves to make soundtracks for books. This is what she came up with:

You Picked Me by A Fine Frenzy
Given to Fly by Pearl Jam
Daughter by Pearl Jam
Volcano Girls by Veruca Salt
Fake Friends by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Invincible by OK Go
Infrared by Placebo
Angry Chair by Alice in Chains
Fighter by Christina Aguilera

  1. As far as the characters in the book, do you have a favorite or least favorite?
Keaton is definitely my least favorite character. I know you don’t ever meet him in Elemental Reality but he’s the worst.

My favorite character(s) are Callie and Lola. They were so much fun to write! Lola is a trip with some of the things she says and her sarcasm is great.

  1. Can you tell us what you are working on now or planning for the next book?
I’m working on Battle Scars, which is book two in the series. I don’t want to divulge any information on it yet but just know that A LOT is going to happen in it that will be unexpected.

This cover definitely has my vote for one of the prettiest of the year.    Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some of my questions today.

I am loving the extras that authors are doing: for example this book does have a playlist to go along with it to help express the feel of the book and the characters. What do you think about the addition of playlists to books?
