City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

The 2nd book in The Mortal Instruments Series
Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation

I really enjoyed this second book in the series, maybe even more than the first. This series is getting a lot of hype in the Young Adult/Teen book world right now, and if the rumors are true it's currently being cast for a movie.
There is a lot of action, great plot and fabulous writing style. There is a constant flow of action and entertainment until the last page.
If you are a fan you may have read the first book City of Bones, and know that we were thrown a whopper of a twist at the end. This 2nd book will still keep us guessing as to whether what the future holds for the main characters.
My absolutely favorite part of this particular story was the relationship between Simon and Jace. And oh boy does Simon go through a lot of stuff in this one!
The author has created a great cast of characters in this series and I can't wait to see what happens next.
I did not go into my usual review for this book as it's the 2nd book in the series, also it's hugely popular so there's not much that I could add to the vast amount of reviews currently out there.
This is a series you don't want to miss out on and as always, thank you David at yabookreads.com for introducing me to the series.
